Highlights from Our 3-Week Adventure in Australia

We kicked off our 3-week Aussie adventure with a thrill—climbing Perth’s Matagarup Bridge and ziplining 400 metres across the Swan River. From helmet-clad climbs to a high-speed zipline landing, it was the perfect blend of challenge, adrenaline, and iconic views.

Matagarup Bridge and the Swan River

We recently wrapped up an incredible 3-week adventure across Australia. From coastal getaways to rainforest thrills, and everything in between—it was one of those trips that packs a lifetime of memories into just a few weeks. This trip was sponsored by Daphne Hahn our wonderful host.

This post kicks off a 4-part series where I’ll walk you through the top highlights from our journey:

Perth, and our high-flying adventure across the Swan River.

Where We Stayed: The Majestic Burswood Hotel

Let’s start with the base of operations.

We checked into the Burswood Hotel, which turned out to be one of the best accommodation choices of our trip.

Here’s why we loved it:

  • Spacious, luxury rooms with floor-to-ceiling views of the Perth skyline and river
  • Walking distance to Matagarup Bridge and the Swan River
  • On-site dining, bars, and entertainment via the Crown Perth complex
View from our room looking over the pool area with the Perth skyline, the Matagarup Bridge and the Swan River in the background.

After long days packed with excitement, it was the perfect blend of comfort and class.

Matagarup Bridge Climb: Legs, Heights & Epic Views

This climb isn’t for the faint hearted—but it’s worth every step.

Outfitted with harnesses and helmets, we set out on a guided climb up Matagarup Bridge, which stretches across the Swan River.

Bridge Climb Highlights:

  • Steep incline with open-air ladders and railings
  • 72 metres at the peak
  • Takes about 45–60 minutes depending on your pace
  • Panoramic views of the Perth skyline and river

We made it to the top of the bridge - that was a really challenging climb!!

It's challenging enough to feel like a real adventure but accessible for most with a moderate fitness level.

Safety & Gear: What to Expect

Don’t worry—this isn’t a free climb. The experience is professionally guided and extremely safe.

Here’s how they keep you secure every step of the way:

  • You’re clipped onto a safety line the entire climb—no unhooking, no chance of falling
  • The guides walk you through each section with clear instructions
  • Helmets are mandatory (and essential!)—you’ll duck under low-slung pipes, beams, and bridge supports multiple times
  • Expect to do some fancy footwork—there are metal grates, narrow steps, and angled beams that’ll test your balance
  • The gear is professional: sturdy harnesses, dual safety clips, and support handles throughout

Ziplining Over the Swan River: Pure Adrenaline

Now comes the real rush.

After the climb, we clipped in for a 400-metre zipline that launches you from the bridge’s summit and soars you over the Swan River.

What it’s like:

  • You’re flying with uninterrupted river and city views
  • It’s smooth, fast, and safe—but definitely a thrill
  • You land on the eastern bank near Optus Stadium

Setting off on our first ever Zipline

Now I’ve got to say—my descent was the fastest in our group - 55 miles per hour!

As I sped toward the landing zone, the ground crew suddenly started shouting, “Lift your feet! Lift your feet!”

I didn’t even think—just reacted. Pulled my feet up just in time and slammed into the stopping mechanism with a bone-jarring jolt.

This was our first-ever ziplining experience, and we were instantly hooked. There’s just something about flying through the air that makes you want to do it again and again.

Practical Tips for Your Perth Zipline Adventure

Thinking about doing it yourself? Here’s what we’d recommend:

  • Stay close – The Burswood Hotel is ideal
  • Dress smart – Closed shoes and activewear are essential
  • Book ahead – Spots fill fast during tourist season
  • Fitness level – The climb is steep, but manageable
  • Nervous about heights? – You can opt to climb only and skip the zip
